S. Newton Anderson, an attorney in Spicer Rudstrom’s Memphis office, settled a workers’ compensation matter last week that had been ongoing for more than two years. His client, a large regional trucking company, was being sued by an employee who suffered a fracture to one of his lumbar vertebrae while on the job. The suit was initially filed in the Tennessee Department of Labor and worked its way into the Shelby County Circuit Court.
Set for trial on Jan. 10th, both parties engaged in negotiations the night before and reached a settlement that the court approved. Newt was able to secure a favorable limit to his client’s exposure while still justly compensating the employee.
Newt’s practice involves handling various types of civil cases, advising corporate clients on business matters, and representing clients in landlord-tenant and other commercial real estate matters. He is the Managing Member of the Memphis office and serves as the chair of the firm’s Employment Law practice area.
