The Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association (TDLA) hosted its Trial School, on January 23-24, 2026, in downtown Nashville. This immersive program helps attorneys sharpen their courtroom skills. This year’s faculty included Lance Thompson, SR attorney in our Nashville office, who volunteered his time and expertise to mentor participants.

Lance (center) is pictured with Judge David Briley (right), former Mayor of Nashville, and Judge Terry Fann (left) of Rutherford County, both of whom are also lending their invaluable insights to the program. Their presence underscores the caliber of this year’s Trial School faculty—a powerhouse lineup of seasoned trial professionals and judges who are committed to shaping the next generation of litigators.

The TDLA Trial School offers a hands-on learning experience. Participants step into the role of trial attorneys, working through every stage of a trial using a NITA case file. From voir dire and opening statements to direct and cross-examinations, introducing exhibits, and delivering compelling closing arguments, attendees gain practical experience in a supportive environment. What truly sets this program apart is the real-time feedback participants receive from experienced judges and coaches. At the conclusion of the mock trials, participants will even hear actual jury verdicts, providing a rare and invaluable perspective on their trial performance.
